Went to watch "Couples Retreat" with Siew Mai on Sunday and both of us went in with a bit of scepticism considering that its a Vince Vaughn movie. However, we both enjoyed it a lot!

The movie is about how Jason (Jason Bateman) and Cynthia (Kristen Bell) are close to getting a divorcefollowing failed attempts to conceive. In an effort to save their marriage they book a vacation to a couples therapy retreat, called Eden. To save money they encourage their friends to join them, and claim that their friends can enjoy the party activities and not take part in the therapy. Reluctantly their friends, Dave (Vince Vaughn) and Ronnie (Malin Akerman), Joey (Jon Favreau) and Lucy (Kristen Davis), and recently divorced Shane (Faizon Love) and his girlfriend Trudy (Kali Hawk) agree. That's when slight chaos occurs and all the cracks in all four relationships show up.

Like most rom-coms, this movie has a feel-good happy ending that makes us all believe in love and the institution of marriage. There's your inevitable lol sexual innuendos and slightly obscene gestures. Nevertheless, I like the message of the movie which is that marriage is a choice and that you've got to work at it. Cliche but true. All in all, thumbs up!
