I think there should be a show called “Taxi Drivers say the Darnest Things” cos they do! So many taxi drivers have entertained, infuriate and amused me to bits.  Today was no exception.

Hopped into a cab and after I commented that the weather these days have been crazy, he launched into how the weather is making his kids ill and that they didn’t take their meds followed by his mum’s medical drama. Get this: his mum was in a coma for a month and when they were deciding to pull the plug, he and his siblings whispered in her ear, “If you want to go, just go.” He said that within half an hour of that statement, his mum started twitching and is now alive and doing very well. He called it a rebirth and stressed that there really is a God in this world. He even told me that he had gone to see an astrologer who told him that his mum would encounter a huge calamity but will get out of it although it will cost him and his family a lot of money.  His point of telling me this story? He told his mum not to sleep in the same room as his kids as they’re sick.

Oh…straight after this miraculous story, he told me that he’s hot tempered and that he got into an argument with an officer who was being racist. He gave me an almost verbatim recollection of what was transpired between him and the officer and he even told me that he taped the conversation down, which is why the officer didn’t charge him.

Haha…I’m amazed at what taxi drivers tell me sometimes. Snippets of their lives in 10 minutes and I probably won’t see them again despite the size of our island. Will look forward to my next interesting taxi encounter!

Recently, I feel as if I'm watching my life unfold like a soap opera. I don't want the drama please. When you're younger, you never thought that you'd go through all these unbelievable things and that such things would happen to you or your friends.

Real life is complex.

What I've learnt is that no matter what kind of shit happens, life still goes on. We've got to move on forward and stop looking at the past. The present is the most important as we pave the way for our future. It is amazing how non-judgemental I've become. I never thought I'd be this patient nor tolerant. Maybe the years have mellowed me.

I thank God for this sense of clarity. It has taken me some time to reach here with my bouts of melancholy and feeling as if the rug was pulled from under my feet. I now know what it truly means to love someone unconditionally and to be for that person no matter what. I think I know how parents feel when they see their children make horrible mistakes but yet are there to comfort and support their children. I believe that is how God feels about us too.

Guilt. Regret. These are emotions that hold us back but yet is what makes us human. Thinking that we're always right is also another human trait. Well, we're not always right. There's never one way to do things. Those who only think they're right and use words to hurt you are just toxic and make you feel bad about yourself. Time to detox. I'm going to move forward and get rid of these people in my life.

Why this philosophical post? As I wrote earlier, reel life mirrors real life in terms of the drama. Except that real life is a mix of comedy, soap opera and everything else. This is my shout out to the world - to those who are feeling as if their world is getting too crazy and they can't find the ground.

Gor and I went to ASD (Action for Singapore Dogs) on Saturday as part of a volunteer charity service. We went there to paint their fences and so some landscaping work. Painting really takes up a lot more time than I had expected.

That's me squatting down and painting the bottom bits....

Check out the splats of silver paint on my thigh!! I've got them on my arms and feet too...very Lady Gaga-esque LOL.
Why did we have to paint their fences? Well, we had to paint the metal fences that rusted due to rain and the dogs' pee.

Like SPCA, ASD is an animal shelter for abandoned and abused dogs. They try to find homes for these dogs as well as to create awareness in Singapore about doggy issues. You can learn more about them or volunteer your services at their website www.asdsingapore.com. They really need financial support too as it costs them A LOT of money to take care of the dogs that they're currently housing. Apparently, they have over a hundred dogs waiting to be adopted and you can see the photos on their website too.

Although it was a very hot day and we were all dripping in perspiration, it felt good to be doing something for a charity. It may not be a lot but every little bit counts.

Went home and look at how Baileys obsessed over sniffing my clothes. Haha....yes, I was cavorting with other dogs!!! I don't throw my clothes on the floor ok...was just very amused at how my dog was more interested in sniffing my clothes than anything else.

If only my mum let me have another dog...then Baileys will have a sister or bro. Saw 2 very adorable mongrel pups at ASD which were rescued from a canal. They were probably very traumatised because they are soooo afraid of humans and will run and hide behind or under anything. But they've got such sweet faces. Sorry...didn't take much pics cos hands were really splattered with paint etc.

What do you do when you finish eating dinner and you're not quite filled? Dessert of course!
My family and I went to the new Honeymoon Dessert at Vivo City and here's what I ordered:

Durian with black Thai glutinous rice in vanilla sauce (SGD 6.50). The durian was very good and I was pleasantly surprised that the glutinous rice had bits of corn inside as well. At first bite, the vanilla sauce reminded me of coconut milk except the fatty after taste that accompanies it. You can't quite taste the vanilla until you've finished the durian and the glutinous rice but I'm not complaining. I think its excellent!

Mum, being mum, had to order the most expensive dessert among the 3 of us. Hers was the durian with matcha ice cream in vanilla sauce (SGD 8). I didn't think green tea would go with durian but I was surprised and mum ate up everything with two thumbs up.


Dad ordered simple sesame paste (SGD 2.50) and he said that it wasn't as sweet as those you'd get from other places so its a plus point for those who are watching their sugar intake.

I think the prices are quite reasonable and I like the fact that the prices stated in the menu includes GST and they do not charge service charge. That said, the service isn't that great so wave a lot to catch a wait staff's attention and remind them to give you serviettes. Other things to note is that they only accept DBS/POSB for bills $10 above and only Visa/Mastercard for purchases above $20.

Went to watch "Clash of the Titans" with my folks last night despite reading the lukewarm reviews. My verdict is that it IS an entertaining movie since there's tons of action, hot bods, good looking people and some action sequences. You just need to forget how the producers basically messed up a lot of the Greek mythology.

That said, I agree with one reviewer who wrote that the monsters in this remake of the 1981 film of the same name resembled those in "Transformers" and "Aliens". However, to be fair to the director and the computer graphics team, most monsters tend to fit into the same stereotypes - lots of sharp teeth, brown, huge and fugly.

I seriously don't think you should waste your money seeing this in 3D. Watched it in 3D to find it useless as most of the time, the subtitles were popping out (ok...all the better to read?) and the monsters weren't that incredibly IN YOUR FACE which is the reason for 3D movies, isn't it? So yeah...save that extra $3/$4 and go watch it in 2D. If you must.

I know that I haven't been blogging lately and well, I've got to admit that my life this past week has been rather boring. I've got loads to rant about but I can't because you never know who's reading in cyberspace...I'd like to keep my head on my shoulders, thank you very much.

I do have something that I want to blog about but I'm very hesitant as it is very personal. I don't think it is a taboo topic but then, I hate labels etc. Let me mull about it a little longer and if there is an impetus to blog it, I shall.

My flat is so quiet now because my bro's in Australia on holiday. I was not used to it the first night he was gone but I'm really soaking it in right now. He called me this afternoon telling me that he's tempted to buy the Aesop animal wash (AUD 70??) for Baileys. Told him that he's nuts. I'm NOT sharing that with him. If he wants to buy it, it'll be HIS treat to Baileys. Bro will be back on Sun...so will the noise...*sigh*

Some things that I'm looking forward to: Parents' Birthday celebrations next week! My company's/ school's D&D at the end of this month! Chicago - the musical in May!! :D Good stuff....can't wait!
