Ah...I know, I know...I haven't been updating for the past week as I've been uber busy.
I received the 16th volume of Ouran High Host Club to translate and have been given a very tight deadline...so Ouran fans, keep your eye out! The translated edition should be out by *fingers crossed* June.
On a personal basis, I've also been doing lotsa stuff. Watched 'Shutter Island' with Cubey on Sun, became my bro's and dad's chauffeur on Sun night when I went to pick both of them up from the airport (separate flights in separate terminals!). Watched 'Crossing Henessey' with Mum on Wed (review of it is a 'so-so from me) and both of us were so disappointed that the 2 girls in front of us managed to get the LAST two goodie bags that are given out at GV's Ladies' Night. :(
Fri was the annual Dinner and Dance, after which I headed to Butter with Mel Li. Ok...we're sooo going to avoid Fri nights at Butter's Bump room now. It was crowded and the human traffic was terrible. More people were walking from one end to the other and they were just pushing and prodding. I did feel like a dancing sheep being herded from one end to the next in search of a nice spot to not get hit, sloshed with drink or squished. We headed to Fash instead where we could breathe. I think the air-con ventilation's much better in Fash.
Went to watch the musical 'Chicago' with my family yesterday! I loved the film and I love the stage version too!! I can see how and why certain elements were changed to suit the film and I love how there was a lot more interaction between the actors and the band in the stage version. It reminds me of the Brechtian theory of breaking down the 'fourth wall' so that the audience is reminded that you're watching a play/ musical. Love love 'Chicago'. Like the songs, it was jazzy, sharp and witty. It's really, ALL THAT JAZZ! :)
I'm waiting for my lunch as I type this. Hungry. Must eat in 15 minutes and then rush off for my Japanese class. Having a major test today and I haven't studied. :( I spent most of yesterday translating and I think I'm making horrid pace. No momentum. I need to get into the zone....okie dokes. I shall haunt the kitchen now. See ya!
Hmm...not sure whether you are able to see the word in the above pic...but it is Brotzeit! Went to this German pub/ restaurant at Vivo with Siew Mai and Mel Li on Sat evening for dinner and it was quite a nice place to chow, drink beer and chat with friends. The atmosphere isn't chi-chi (although the price of drinks and food weren't cheap) but it isn't too minimalist cheap either.
Here's me lager with lemon juice and vodka. Yes...me hate beer. Need stuff to mask the bitter beer taste. I highly recommend this for the ladies, especially if you like something a little sweet and refreshing. Siew Mai complained that it's too sweet once. Well...she's the type who drinks the bitter ones...yuck.

After dinner, we went to watch "Storm Warriors" and well, I shall dedicate a post on that because *starts laughing* the show demands a full post on its corny lines, "300" inspired scenes and wonderful dramatic music. I already have a favourite line from the movie and I keep cracking up whenever I think about that scene and those lines.Anyways, after the movie, we headed to St. James with the full intention of clubbing the night away. We 1st headed to Boiler Room as the music sounded quite good. Music was ok BUT there was NO dedicated dance floor! There were dozens of bar tables and chairs in front of the stage and there was going to be a live band. Hmm....ok....off to the next room. The Gallery Bar that I used to love is now dead. :( Went to Dragonfly just for fun and well, it is an air-conditioned getai. Next - Movida. Same set up as Boiler Room except that there was a small dedicated dance floor. Music wasn't that great and the crowd looked like the sort who'd stub your toes and slam elbows into your face. Bah. Fed up with the whole place, we headed off to Butter Factory. It is official Mel Li's and my fave club now. :)
The drinks are strong enough, the music good and the crowd pumping. Who cared if Zoukout was on in Sentosa? I'd rather pay $23 for 2 drinks in an air-conditioned club. Haha. This is the 1st time I partied till closing!! Normally, I'd head off after 3am as my parents will quiz me the next morning and use the "don't stay out so late" line with THE LOOK. Hehe...but since my parents weren't in town last weekend...it was party till closing!! Woohoo!! I thoroughly enjoyed myself. :D Next time on Christmas!!! Hiak hiak hiak....
Went clubbing with Jiak, Jaimes, Christabel, Joanna and Deanna last night at Butter Factory and boy was it a night of lots of things happening. We even met Lynette there (I haven't seen her for 9 years)! First up - I must say that this isn't my first time at Butter Factory and both times, the music transistion was just odd. Each song was good. Just that the transistion was damn off.
Secondly - there were a lot of dangerous dancers in there at around 11:30pm. This guy had a small waist pouch and he was dancing on the raised platform. Pls be conscious of the people behind you when you shake your booty!! He was with a bunch of friends and all of them are dangerous I tell you. One of his Indian friends (not meant to be racist. He just IS Indian.) was actually running/ skipping around the raised platform. (0_O)? That really caused me and Christabel to just burst out laughing after the initial frown. Wait. There's more. They've got a couple of ang moh and I don't know what other race friends who were just TAKING A LOT OF ROOM from shaking side to side. ( -_-;)
Soon, that bunch of people left and guess who we saw? We saw a local male singer (make a guess, he's around my age and he's famous in Taiwan and China too) who was getting jiggy with someone I dare guess to be his gf. She looked pretty insecure.
After 12:30am, the crowd was getting more into the groove and some MORE into something else. There was this annoying couple that was slowly gyrating (how you can slowly gyrate to hip-hop, I have no idea) and then soon their tongues were in each other's mouths and his hands were almost riding up her skirt. They needed a room. Besides the irritating PDA, they were taking up a lot of space!! The dance floor is already so crowded and you would've thought that they would be kinda rooted to one spot but on the contrary, they somehow managed to sway a lot. Sheesh...this is the 2nd time I've seen this kind of thing. Thank goodness they weren't like the stripper-dancer type like what I saw at Gallery Bar in Dec. Hmm...is clubbing these couples' idea of foreplay? But couldn't see any sparks flying...just a lot of gyrating, groping and of course, tongue action. Hmm.
Thank goodness that ended a while later. However, within the hour, the floor got even MORE crowded and it didn't help that the air-conditioning that day was quite crap. At around 2am....I got pretty irritated by this girl who just needed a lot of space to dance. Mind you, I do admit that she's a good dancer but when the dance floor is so crowded, please be considerate of the people around you and STOP BUMPING INTO THEM! She bumped into me a gazillion times. I even stood still once to see how she'd like it if she obviously bumped into someone but she didn't give a damn. Ah well. By 2:30am, I had danced enough and my toes were really hurting badly...so Jiak, Jaimes and I decided to go to River Valley for supper.
Upside: $21 (ladies)/ $26 (gents) for 2 standard drinks is quite a pretty decent cover charge. The drinks aren't too bad and you'd end up paying more if you bought 2 standard drinks without paying the cover charge (UOB Plat card holders get in free before 11pm). DJ is quite good except for the transistion issue.
Downside: The air-con; the dance floor gets too crowded and the people aren't as considerate as those that club at Velvet Dragon or St. James. Jiak's complaint is that the crowd in Butter Factory is too young. Yes...the crowd there are like in their late teens to 30s tops. There aren't enough chairs for people to rest either.
In all...I think I'll stick to MOS or St. James and I already miss Club Momo....
